Why does a video have to be commercial? Sorry to butt in, I know this is your conversation with someone else. But -- I make lots of vids and they are not for sales or marketing or TV or anything corporate. Why can't video be for fun and art? I just found your reaction to this person very interesting because it appears to make the assumption that "all video is commercial". Which, its not.
In your position, I would have asked "video? for what purpose?" and gotten more information about their intentions, rather than just assuming that "oh well it MUST be for commercial there is no other possibility!" lol
Do these look "commercial" to you?
No disrespect is intended. I just felt it was slightly unfair to automatically assume that someone has bad intentions towards your work. Just because someone asks about an artistic format, does not automatically mean they are trying to sell your art as their own, or use your art to sell some product of theirs. Besides, if someone is looking to make money with videos online, there are ways to do so without selling anything or marketing anything with nothing to do with products or sales or marketing at all! But, most people are so stuck in old obsolete paradigms that the very idea of "making money without marketing a product" sounds like claiming to them that they can grow wings and fly. lol
But anyways, I hope you get my point. Maybe this person just wanted to make a tribute video to your art on YouTube and have that send people from YouTube to your deviantART Profile to see your art? Did you ever think of this? Maybe ASKING them what their intentions are might be better than making a snap judgement about someone.
I mean hey, do as you wish. I am not trying to tell you what to do. But at least now I know that next time I do a video feature of female artists on deviantART that I like (and I have done this sort of thing before) that you do not wish to be included! So noted!
